If it was actually a quest for gas, and not walking back to the station I had passed on the way towards the show. The thought in my brain "Better get gas, no, late to see the show" was, if not ironic, certainly humorous as I walked back to the station.

And houses are different in a light rain in the dark. It was at a few moments a very Vimsean scene, as I quietly walked by visual glimpses or momentary riffs of domesticity (the homes in the city!)

But the concatenation of "No, get gas later" "Need to get exercising" just makes it all rather humorous.
