Date: 2005-01-31 01:27 am (UTC)Isn't it actually spelled "January"? *stifled giggle* Feel free to glare exasperatedly now! ;)
So what do you need motivation for? That, maybe, I can help with?
Now it's spelt

Date: 2005-01-31 02:19 pm (UTC)Amsterdam!
Date: 2005-02-04 06:47 pm (UTC)has info. Just down from the Old Church on the same street; really nice.
2. Walk once around the Old Church.
3. The Bloomgarden (street of flowers) is really nice, very short, and should look amazing when you're there.
4. Amsterdam Historic Museum (see above info link) has the Hall of City Watch Paintings, and some great armor bits, as well as good ceramics and wonderful renasannce stuff.
5. Rijksmuseum. Mostly closed, the part that's open has the best pieces, for a reduced fee--a great bargain! I spent 4 hours and didn't feel that I studied everything.
6. Walk the big city--it's not that big. On the main walking drag you see all kinds of things, the Amsterdam Historic Museum is off of it, it connects to the Bloomgarden, you can see the Beginauge (sp?!), the American Bookstore, etc.
7. Heard raves about taking a water boat tour from an independent; you bring your own food and share a canal boat with the owner rather than be in a glasstop tourist trap.
8. Eat a herring.
AVOID:
1. Coffeehouses. Cafe's serve coffee, and there were some very good ones, (my favorite just 2 streets away from the Church in the Attic from the Old Church) but Coffeehouses do weed and the smoke is amazing.
2. Van Gogh Museum, unless the moving exhibit is something you like. These are the paintings the tax collector got.
3. Bicycling, unless you're good. There's plenty of lanes but plenty of cyclists.
Ask Thorfinn and Cynswith about countryside options!
Have fun!
