Fighter Practice Last night

Went to BART and took Uther's beginning class.
More on the class later. Warmed up with Martin, fighting sword and buckler to his two stick. Worked on seeing the opening and firing for the temple. Went to full speed and worked with Martin on his commitment to the fight and speed in sword blows. Great warmup, fun fights. He was working on not using his thrusts, which was nice as the buckler is more of an adornment than an actual blocking surface. It was interesting that when he closed with a flurry of blows, it calmed me down; to be at the center of the sword storm is a peaceful place--if you're good with a sword.
Second set with Mauricio; the temple shooting worked very well, especially as he will lean for his shots and cannot then quickly react. Noted that my range game was working well. Mauricio was trying to gunfight; the shield is too quick.
Had a fight with Uther; he could hit me at will, by throwing a feint and hitting either of the major open areas. Note to self: block the UNarmored parts.
Went to fight Vytas, but he'd tweaked his back, not too bad.
Ran into a bunch of beginners who were practicing bad habits, so got them doing basic snap in slowwork, then handed the group off to Vytas to fight Geoffrey Scott.
Geoffrey Scott initially had my number--I wasn't triggering on his head snap and he was scoring it at will. He dropped that, and with the sword I was using, I was a moment too slow. Need to remember to hit through more.
Equipment issues: Right leg, right hand, lack of shield.
Fitness: Aerobic strength, tighten core muscles more (as a habit)
Mental state: Good to excellent; don't fall to "teacher mode" so quick, and stop cutting slack to belts.
UTHER'S Class
What is your fighting goal? To become the effective war killer again. To win Coronet. To not make excuses for my fighting. (long range to short.)
What is your plan to reach that goal? Work out 3x a week for endurance, strength and flexibility. Train offence and defense twice a week, train and fight twice a week. Fight at Crapaud.
How often do you fight versus train? Do you know how to train?
*My problem is more that I fall into "train others" mode too fast.
Does your armor work well--if not, why not?
(that's a whole separate post, but see above...)
What are your three goals after discussion?
Hmm. 1. Teach a basic war command class and develop a group of warriors to work with (not neccesarily a war unit.) 2. Train to win Coronet. 3. Train my squires.
What are your top three problems in your fighting: (How do you plan to address them?)
1. Lack of endurance physical/mental. (Gym work, meditation and thought work.)
2. Equipment failures. (Fix armor)
3. Not fighting my one fight. (Read opponent, act to beat, not react.)
I recommend Uther's class highly!

Date: 2005-04-23 07:53 am (UTC)And when you win Coronet, one bouncy Lochac poet (who's getting more and more nervous about becoming a landed Baroness) will embroider you a silk banner - small payment for a poem - and because I think you're pretty wonderful. And I have no doubt you can live up to these commitments.

Big Yeti hugs - now get to work! *grin*

"No. To kill people, as quickly as you can."
