Hola! Sweaty here in Paris!
Marched all over Paris looking for my passport yesterday, knee not happy, no luck on passport. Fed the carp in the Tuilery, went and was amazed by the line at D'Orsay, failed to find Cluny, gave it all up and went back to the Hotel Virgina, where I crashed out. Got up, showered, and headed out to the Ragtime ball in the Mairy (sp!) of the 14e, which was recorded music (some very good! Thank you Mr. Powers) and some amazing costumes. Two women (sisters) were wearing dresses (over shifts) that were basically modified togas; that is, one piece of fabric cut and draped, with little belts slung low over the hips. Hand embroidered, very nice. Two men were in silk flapper dresses and wigs, they looked right (a little too angular in the feet and hands but the line worked. And the ballroom and breakroom had wonderful 20's and 30's art--paintings and ceramic tile sculptures. The floor was slick, slick though--several falls--so we danced very carefully.
The Grizzley Bear that was done was the best I've ever seen; the French dancers combine a sense of style and sillyness that's amazing.
Went back for afters, drank a quart of water. I need to keep drinking water; I forget how fast the heat takes it out of me.
Today, they're off to FountainBlue, and I'm off to the embassy, thanks to Diabhidhbeag who came through and faxed me an old copy of my passport. Off to submit to the whims of government!
THe local group has really kicked out the jams (jambs?) on making sure we have balls to dance at. And they costume well.
Nota bene: Ok, I get it, "Bucu" is from the french...

Distances are deceiving
Date: 2005-07-27 02:23 pm (UTC)Oh, and when you do favors for friends? Not recommended to try and buy remaindered china. Too difficult for the unable to speak french, no matter how enthusiastic you are...
Boy, am I sweaty...
