Missing the final dance, as the French organizers of this event (to be fair, probably only one of the organizers, the one who can't seem to get anything right) failed to put in the directions that you wanted to go to the old, old part of the Gare du Nord.
Obviously, there's not a clock tower in the new one, so it must be in the old one, right? They may have made notes about this in other places, at other times, but as I've missed all but one of the dance classes (and came close to missing that) and half the trips, I'm not up on the changes.
It really sucks to pay this much money (1300$) and get this bad a service. I didn't go to the dance last night because I didn't feel like spending another 1/2 hour on the metro to try to find the group. Tonight, I made the effort, but gave it up after 45 minutes of looking, and another of the attendees confirmed that it wasn't in the Gare du Nord. Didn't go to the big thing (visit to Fountainblue) on Wednesday, trying to get the passport sorted out. So, for my money, I've gotten one dinner, one taxi ride, one cool barge ride (didn't stick around for the dance, went looking for the passport), one very nice dinner and dance at Chatu http://www.breteuil.fr/c0.php?Doc=0;0&uScr=988;615 Chateu de Breteuil, which had a very nice room to dance in, and one class. Oh, and a bag for the info. For $1300. (The hotel room is separate, and was mis-booked in any case--I was booked into a single after requesting a double.)(So, all told, this week NOT COUNTING food and tourism and getting the new passport was $2000.)
To really add to it, I've picked up some china for some friends on the assurance that other people will help carry it. I've tried to hook up with other people, but there's not a lot of positive interest. So I've got about 10 more pounds of luggage.
I'm not coming to a dance week again without bringing a few friends--the crowds tend to run to cliques. I'm not coming to the second half if it's in France; the organizers here are not so hot. I'm counting my blessings that I can dance in the Bay Area.
Oh, and I'm going to figure out what the hell I'm allergic to, because my allergies are in full force right now.
If there's problems moving forward, I'll just go to Berlin, pay the $250, and go home. The fact that this option is so appealing sucks.
Off to eat chocolate in my room and fulminate over the fact that the english language bookstores here are mindblowingly expensive....
