Faith, Hope and Charity

Charity.

Charity is a term in Christian theology (one of the three theological virtues), meaning loving kindness towards others; it is held to be the ultimate perfection of the human spirit, because it is said to both glorify and reflect the nature of God. In its most extreme form charity can be self-sacrificial. Charity is one conventional English translation of the Greek term agape.

I have been the fortunate recipient of great charity.

This year I attempted many acts of personal charity. I also strove to keep faith and hope alive. And it was returned to me, in an amazing way.

Someone sent me a sum of money, anonymously. Not a casual sum (more than dinner and a movie) but not an enormous sum (less than a house payment) but a very welcome sum.

Since it is charity to me, and thanks, I am trying to use it in a proper manner. For joy, I used some of it in the Hedonism week, and in buying gifts--birthday gifts, in particular, and the first season of "House". I also used it to help pay for a few group meals, such as I could sneak in.

But mainly, I realized that worrying about money is a loss, and a lack of faith, and a lack of good work. I can work and earn money, and should, and will.

Thank you, my anonymous benefactor. You have lightened my heart, and helped me spread smiles.

Thank you.

I'm not your anonymous benefactor, but I do think you're one of the kindest and most deserving-of-charity folks I know. Yay for your anonymous benefactor as well! ;)

appreciative words

You expressed yourself eloquently as usual. And the subject of your writng was one that speaks to me as well.

Have I ever told you how awed I am of your ability with words?
