Was relaxing like a git in my bed (after being up for a bit) when there's this knock on the front door and some foriegn conversation. Go check it out, and it's 4 children (just post-toddler to spunky 5 year old) with scissors, and Mom/caretaker.

There's a Jewish Feast this weekend (tonight? Tomorrow?) and they want to collect grass from my yard to make a bouquet for it. I identify the grasses (wild oats, wild wheat (foxtails), rye (fescue)) and show them how to eat nasturtium flowers, and turn them loose with their scissors. Snip snip walk yell! Fun.

With the exception of Nathan, who decided to go and try and cut the motorcycle (no Nathan! That's not a grass!) they were very well behaved. Had a lovely chat about religion.

What fun! What feast was that, though? Shavuot (corresponds with Pentecost) works. Hmm.

You do know that motorcycle grass is much sought after.... Just kidding. That sounds fascinating.

What else are you doing today?

Being Angsty and ill

I'm fairly sure I want to teach people older than the age of 14. Of course, that's where the big demand is.

Heh. From about 13 to 16 is really tough. After 16, kids seem to find a little maturity. I also like the little ones (4-10). They're like little sponges.

I'm sorry you are feeling angsty. I hope you feel less angsty as you feel less ill!

It's Shavuot on Friday. :) ) It is a celebration of the harvest of first fruits & the giving of the Torah.

A strawberry holiday?

Where's the guilt?

I thought the typical Jewish holiday was "We were oppressed, there was a battle, we lost, let's eat good food!"

The only guilt comes from stopping the harvest for one day & staying up all night (yes, it's part of the common observance to stay up Thursday-to-Friday night). But there is food, as always.

Nasturtium Flowers

How many people have you treated to this? I'm quite certain I resembled a codfish when I first saw you eat one, but actually, they are kind of tasty. I'm sure the kids got a kick out of it as much as I did when you first introduced me to the joys of edible flowers.

Now I have this wonderful picture in my head of kids laughing and bouncing around your yard cutting stuff. Thanks.
