Well, there's a bright side.

The meeting that the principle had to have with me ASAP? They don't have the money to actually give me a contract. Job go poof. Welcome to go down to San Diego and plead my case, but unless enrollment goes up, no money...

Suck.

Of course, on the other side, I can now go to Burning man and Pennsic if I want to.

Still, though, right now? Suck.

What the swyve? Are they going to pay you for what you've worked already?

There's three jobs;

Engineering Summer Academy, which i will get paid for, Summer school at HTH, which I will get paid for (less, plus a heckacommute, and which was a requirement for the 3rd job, which is), and High Tech High. HTH doesn't have the enrollment to support all the teachers, so the last hired are being let go/not offered contracts. So the course developement work I've done is a wash, but hey, if they miraculously get 40 students they'll hire me.

I'm sorry it's not working out. I was really concerned about that enrollment level, as I said when we talked -- evidently they're losing students at other grade levels, too, and still haven't hit 100 for the incoming class.

Sorry to hear you are on such a roller coaster. So you end up with one out of 3, then?

I'll keep my hopes up for you. And you're always welcome with us out in the desert, too.

Bummer.

I wonder why they can't get the enrollment? Seems like people would be lining up to get their kids in there.

I'm a parent at the school, taking my son out of it for next year. Many students have or are leaving, because of problems with the school and the outcomes they're getting. At this point, they don't even have the full 100 student enrollment for freshman, while the nearby charter had hundreds waitlisted.

I guess I should say I *was* a parent at the school. I've spent much of the past two years writing about the problems with it on LJ. Just before the end of the year, they lost several more of their better teachers.

Great concept

So sorry to hear the bummer news. Sigh. And it was so perfect. Oh well, as doors close, others open up. That's how it always works.

Oh, bummer. You're right, suckage. Can't think of anything else to say, really, but here's a nice, big, virtual hug. {{{{HUG}}}}

No Pennsic for me this year. *sigh* I'm going next year come hell or high water, though. Hope you can make it to that one too, I'd love to see you again. Please drop in if you're ever on the Left Coast of Florida.
