Oy. Tiring.
But good.
For the school, you get your classes (Chemistry) and an Advisory, which is sort of like Home Room but more like an extra class and counseling. So you and your advisory had to go to a retreat, on the Stanford campus, where you recited pledges, did "team building" activities, ate really great dorm food (Pizza!) and did various get to know each other activities.
Kinda fun. Not really planned for. WAY too much authority for me, not that I did poorly with it, but searching for alcohol and doing bedchecks and administering discipline is not my idea of fun.
On the other hand, leading a tour of the Stanford campus is amusing. Watching 70 students get over a 14 foot wall is amusing. Passing an eagle feather around and making a pledge is cool. Working with the other teachers is fun. Playing poker between dorm checks was fun.
Learned about "turfing". Watched the first relationships form. Met 13 students, ranging from hyperactive to somnolent to surly to ...well, 13 people, who I will advise, without enough sleep. Got to know them, and them me, and we'll get along, and the problem students are so far easy enough for me to handle.
Things I am TIRED of: Referring to a school group as "Family". Cheerful slogans. Pledges and commitments. Teenaged Angst and Rebellion. (=="Drama") Lack of sleep; up at 6, up until Midnight every day.
Still a word junkie. Still an internet junkie.
Now, to go prep for classes, Purg, Burning Man... Oy!
