Shit.

Literally. The campus next door (adult ed) is overflowing the septic system, and it's emerging out of our storm drains. This happened Friday, and we cancelled school which allowed for more grading. But if it happens every day...we can't cancel that much school.

Who wants to work on a campus with sewage flowing across it?

The Students are NOT HAPPY.

I'm not too thrilled myself at this point...

Otherwise, I'm settling in, starting to get the rhythm of it. There's going to be a lot of disappointment as the grades are produced, though.

And I bet the families aren't happy either, having to keep tabs on kids, etc.

Grading the kids accurately is doing them a favor, even if they hate it.

CV is right. Grading accurately will be perceived as being strict, but that's the way it goes. A good teacher is not one who gives high grades unless they are earned, after all. My best high school teachers were the tough ones and I was grateful later.

Huh.

Even strict grading has so much wriggle room, and so much pressure on it.

I'm failing about 50% of the students, and it's not really affecting them. They're too far gone already.

Grading as a behavior modification is a weak technique.

Sad that you are having to deal with them.

This sounds like a health department issue.
