Ash Wednesday Fast
Mar. 5th, 2003 12:01 pmSpring has sprung here with barely a hint of winter in Silicon valley--only the economic winter of the .com implosion and the moral winter of the war-mongering oil magnates. The indeterminate vine tomatos live on, having not been touched by a frost yet (there was one, but not enough to kill them) and the garden blooms.
In this time and place of plenty, it's difficult to remember that this arc of the year was a time of want for most, when the food stocks were running out and nothing was to be found in the wild. The neccesity of fasting has been preserved in some religions, especially Islam and Catholicism. (leading to many interesting things: An apple pie sublety as a fish: http://www.coquinaria.nl/english/recipes/03.2histrecept.htm )
I will keep a modified abstinence and fast; fast today, and for the season of lent, no meat except on Sundays. And, for my own desires, no chocolate during Lent.
***
Otherwise, things go well. Work is work (same same) and the inverse diet (working on stress reduction) is going well. Dancing continues, and the urge to travel is growing stronger.
