Sun, Friends and Dust
Feb. 16th, 2004 04:17 pmFirst three washings of body done. Nose running brown, not black. Still congested from cold that I had when I went, and if you want to be low energy, have a cold during a dust field battle at Estrella.
Somehow, it seemed like a small event...but very supportive. More later. Off to try and find clothes that don't have a brown patina.
Highlights: "Who'se Your Bunny!" Insanity on the battlefield. "It wasn't them moaning, it was my nose!". Leah's piece. Talking with people. Learning how to play dominos. Connecting up with really cool people I haven't seen in ages.
Lowlights: No energy/still coughing. Having H. trying to hand me a cloven orange during the WKR party. Valentine's day ruminations.
Ashes to ashes, dust to bed...
ADDITIONAL EDIT: Moved security to public. Some thoughts on the events concerning the event:
Good, bad or indifferent time spent at events of this nature (cons, camping with groups, sca events) is more intense because there is less downtime. And more effort. Even a minimally exerted level of participation is still a huge amount of effort, so anyone you meet at one of these events you know is part of the group; they've put the time in.
So even just at the "Cocktail and Campfire Singalong" level of participation, someone has travelled, made garb, organized and set up their camp...and that's just to show up. To actively engage, they've made songs, learned them, etc.
And so a dull accounting of events--rolled in Wednesday night, got car, circled back to get Hamish and Havc, drove to the event, hit Wallyworld and Wafflehouse, got in, signed in, set up, garbed up, wandered around, sang at the BC, went to bed--leaves out the multitude of conversations, the history of eating at the Waffle House for this crowd, the joys of shopping at Walmart to go camping, the songs that Evony and Leah sung (as someone who writes songs/poetry, they inspire me with their skill and feeling.) Armor up, sunscreen up, form up; listen to an amazing song...
3 observations:
Korwyn and Krysta's baby (9?) looks more like a .9 baby. Angelic, though, and asleep. His SCA name will probably NOT start with a K, but hey!
The people I most wanted to spend time with are those who are least on the corporate grind. Ditto health and fitness concerns. Everyone has troubles, but they seemed happier.
Fighting with a cold in the dust? Bad idea, but do-able.
Onward! Who'se the Bunny!
