-cringe- menthol is gonna burn like a mo-beeeeeeeeeeeeeep-er. I second a doctor visit. but if you want to try home medications, I'd try a combination of zinc in the form of a babybuttcream (no burn!) and over the counter cortisone cream. but it sounds like it is "in your system" and you need more than topical at this point.
If your cousin can acquire it for you, I am using Betamethasone Dipropionate Cream .05%. It is the strongest topical they got, and it seems to be working. I am so sorry I failed to give it to you in Vegas, Baby! =(
Take it from a doctor, if you've got poison oak, it shouldn't *still* be spreading. Unless you've been re-exposed, there's something wrong.
For example, shingles looks a lot like poison oak and it does tend to spread. (You definitely don't want steroids on it either, as it will make it worse.)
Also, if you started out with poison oak, but then got a secondary infection, it might look similar to the original exposure, just spread out from the original exposure. (Bad skin strep infections can do this, as can staph infections.)
So, please go get it checked out. You don't want to end up like Jim Henson (who waited until his infection was too far spread to survive.)
*shudder*
