MONKEY!

So, at the end of Mass today they announced that the Angels and Animals would be rehearsing. My immediate and strong thought: "I want to be the MONKEY!" I could blame re-reading Lamb (one of my Christmas reads, with "Hogfather" and some Dickens) or a certain person could laugh at me (for reading too much, you know who you are) but after noting size differences and the fact that I was wearing the big green sweater, Xtal told me I'd make a good Godzilla.

Who would YOU be?

I have some thoughts...[livejournal.com profile] shuttergeek would be the Star, for her bright golden shining. Cpt. Morgan is a King, traveling afar. Helblonde? The polar bear. Rusty? Sorry, man, the black sheep (possibly joeseph, because Ladybirdkiller sure could do mary.) Baby Jesus? I'd pick Tristam, if we could make her sit still long enough. And so on, and so forth...Daedin, a shepard. Demonchick, I don't know, but her boy has the eyes for a soulful animal, and her daughter is clearly an angel shining in the sky.

Between that, actually getting to dance one dance at dicken's (thank you gurdy monkey, and you know what you'd be, right), singing the Messiah, it's a great weekend. yay! Missed the parties last night, but that's OK, because I found out that Bridget (who I just met) had painted an inn sign called "The Brazen Hussey" for one of the faires, and Chris had it...and gave me the clue as to how I had met Chris 12 years ago, at a Goat Roast (to be fair, there were a LOT of people there.) Cool Beans!

If I did Polls:

1. What ANGEL would you be (or character in an actual creche scene?)
2. What ANIMAL would you be (Let your imagination go free!)

1. Given my interest in astrology, I think a magus would be appropriate. Anyway, they had good bling.

2. One of the mustelids, I think. Wolverine? Badger? Ermine? That's the tricky part.

Marten's Fischer!

Just saw a print at the Cantor Museum (Stanford) from an Audobon student. Rare, and you get to eat sushi! If only the fur was redder...

Don't forget that some regions have this fellow in the usual creche scene. Who should play his role?

I'd be a badger. I have no thoughts on creche character for me.

1. A member of the heavenly choir, most likely. So, a Seraphim.

2. Platypus. Definitely.

1. Naamah? Belial. Something likely fallen and only a little naughty.

2. First Lobster

"We three kings have traveled afar. How we wish that we had a car.."

I want to be a polar bear, but the little boy sitting in front of us already had the cutest polar bear suit evar, so I think GM and I have to settle for penguins (I just misspelled that us pungins, possibly the most telling Freudian slip ever!). Fortunately for him, we'll be out of town on Christmas and Christmas eve, so no black and white waddling for us. :( Just as well, I suspect. It is not without irony FatherMcD refers to the Christmas Pageant as Holy Chaos, bless his anal-retentive heart.

(1) I would be one of those frizzy-haired angel musicians (dunno whether I'd be playing shawm, or something stringy like harp or citole). My spouse would have to be one of the Magi (he doesn't look at all angelic :-D)
(2) What animal? Since "non-canonic" animals seem to be OK, maybe a Saluki.

Can I be an alien? (I'm not sure whether that goes under angel or animal.)

Gaius was the one who started the whole monkey thing. "You have a hurdy gurdy, you have to have a monkey." The rest is history or something.

If you have not already read it, Moore's "The Stupidest Angel" should be added to your Christmas list.

Both Versions. Moore is an author I follow. Along with Pratchett (Hogfather, Wintersmith) and Bujold (Winterfair Gifts). It' somewhat telling that I have seasonal re-reading. For Christmas, all of the above.
