At lunch, had a lovely wide ranging conversation with Vytas, which makes me want to go have fun in tech. And also makes me want to walk more. After some cooking, tried to head out to see "The Bear" at the Dragon Theater in Palo Alto, http://www.dragonproductions.net/ but the van ran out of gas. Walked back to the gas station and bought a disposable gas can (box with a bladder) and went and put gas in the van. Would turn over, but not start. Called various people (in all of this) and then AAA, which sent out a second gallon. All good, except the filler hose on the box fell into the tank...problems down the road.

Still about an hour and a half of walking in Palo Alto, nice exercise.

Many thoughts, not really worth putting in here...

The best benefit of walking outdoors is the mood lifting, although possibly questing after gas might dampen that.

Sure!

If it was actually a quest for gas, and not walking back to the station I had passed on the way towards the show. The thought in my brain "Better get gas, no, late to see the show" was, if not ironic, certainly humorous as I walked back to the station.

And houses are different in a light rain in the dark. It was at a few moments a very Vimsean scene, as I quietly walked by visual glimpses or momentary riffs of domesticity (the homes in the city!)

But the concatenation of "No, get gas later" "Need to get exercising" just makes it all rather humorous.

Carpe diem

Luckily it was not your only chance ever to see the movie. It was, however, your only chance to take a walk in a light rain in the dark in Palo Alto while witnessing those particular glimpses of domesticity.

Stage show. Saw it Sunday; nicely done but the director put seats in the stairs in front of me, and the family then re-arranged it so the baby basket was blocking the aisle completely. I lost some of my artistic appreciation anticipating what actions I would take should some sort of emergency arise. Plus, my teeth hurt...but still.

Distractions

One time Mark and I were at Disneyland, and went on the Space Mountain roller coaster while a handy grandparent took our small children in hand.

As our train started to move, in the dark, enclosed space of the ride, I noticed all the girders and struts that the train passed through. I found myself wondering if there was enough clearance for my 6' 4 1/2" seat-mate.

Obviously, they had to make the clearance high enough for a very wide range of rider heights, and I kept telling myself that, but I could not get the horrible picture out of my head, and I did not enjoy a single moment of the ride.

I hope you've found some relief for your teeth by now!
