When we moved to the Northeast, we thought we were leaving water politics behind. But when we got here, we discovered that Boston steals our water the same way that LA steals northern CA water, just on a smaller scale and over a smaller distance.

I've long thought it an amusing exercise to think what would happen if water was not allowed to be piped away from its destination for more than 50 miles, say.

And then there's all that water being mined out of Poland Spring and sold off out of state....

There would be a lot fewer people -- and less agriculture -- in California, that's for sure!

And come to think of it, there would have been fewer people in Rome or Grenada in their heydays.
