RideAlong Adventure

Rebecca was kind enough to let me ride along on her trip to Ashland. Highlights of the trip, in no particular order:
In Redding on the way north we stopped and looked at the gardens at Turtle Bay, including the Sundial Bridge. While the gardens look a little underkempt and shoddy, there were some wonderful art installations in them, including a large willow hut art emplacement, a fountain using different modes of waterflow, and a mosaic bench. Good spot to get out and walk around.

Ashland itself of course has the festival, which is often sold out, especially on Mother's Day weekend. But it also has Oregon Cabaret Theater, which is showing "Whodunit" featuring Kimberly Colburne http://www.oregoncabaret.com/
We got to see it twice, which is nice, as the energy and highlights are different with every show. It's nice to notice that one of the characters was headman for The Toyes, of Smoke Two Joints fame.
While there, we stayed in a T@B trailer--very nice. The owner (Kymberli) has named it T@Boo--and wants some girl scout pinup art (roasting a marshmallow?) for it (preferably redhead.) Anyone know of any?
Had drinks in the Black Ewe, which I remember from earlier trips. Breakfasted at Morning Glory, which of course was routinely jammed, and ate from the Wheel of Salad at Omar's, a steakhouse with a 50's feel. Took in some coffee at The Beanery, where I was schooled by one of the local Scrabble players--at 14, he ended with 85 more points than me. His father was holding down one of the main boards.
Went up to Medford for the Art and Blooms show, a very small art fair that had 3 good things in it from my viewpoint: an excellent carnivorous plant grower (didn't get one--didn't want to transport it.), a metal artist who had lovely pressed tin mermaids on stakes, and the Rogue Valley German Band, aka the Rogue Valley SourKrauts, who did some very nice music and had an excellent bandleader/vocalist. Valderiiiii, Valderaaa! And he could REALLY yodel. Got most of one polka in, but it wasn't good dancing territory.
On the way out, caught the snowstorm in Shasta pass, so did get to drive through snow, but it wasn't sticking on the road nor the car.
Now, teach all week, fix up various houses, finish round one garden planting, and move Dad into Kurts. Oh, and play a little WoW. Still haven't found the guilds, but my toons are all low level. Next up: Replace windows and fix and paint the house, and teach the summer classes.

Date: 2010-05-11 10:36 pm (UTC)I am happy to trade labor in painting and general fixing in exchange for waltz lessons, BTW. :-) I wield a mean scraper, paintbrush, roller and power sprayer. Arrr.
I beg to differ... :)
