Whoa.

The ISEF (Intel International Science and Engineering Fair) is full of intelligent teens who have followed the system, dress up, and politely present often original research for money, prizes, and their own interest. I had conversations concerning the NW passage, the ethics of honey pots and the reaction of students in a free honeypot situation, the chemistry of a lycopene (tomato based) skin creme/sunblock, and some other things. I met people from China (Michigan?), Rome (New York), CZ, Ireland, and ALL OVER Texas and California.

And before that, I taught lessons to kids out on a school trip. Some kids on the kind of behaviour I come down hard on...so I came down on it. Some young men who were striking the women in the class for talking. Behaviour that I would NEVER allow, and yet, their teacher did...the young women would barely speak, and the boys were rowdy. And as a whole the class didn't work.

....guess that changes my view of discipline a little.

Smart or stupid? Moved out of the pay lot to a street space (saving $12). Missed the "locals only" sign hidden in the tree (Ticket $60.)

Happy Birthday Sarah!

Students were hitting the other students for talking? Even making a genderless sentance doesn't help. Have you read http://www.slate.com/id/2253506/ ?

Reminds me of my high school hell - 10th grade AP American history class when my female classmates and I would get verbal abuse from the male classmates whenever we'd talk. Our piece of shit teacher wouldn't lift a finger to stop the abuse. Eventually we complained to the principal but it didn't do any good. So the other girls eventually stopped talking in class, leaving only my best friend and I to suffer the brunt of it. What a bad teacher.
