Been awhile. Good for the brain. Marysdress obliged. Theoretical rules:

Comment to this post and I will pick seven things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

And the words, for me? Good ones, thinky ones!

Salsa, beauty, brothers, speed, love, home, regrets

SALSA! This made me think. Write about my salsa gardens, where I grew everthing to make a good salsa, then discovered that you want salsa to age? Write about the varieties I encountered teaching in SJES? Or ponder that I can't dance salsa. I just don't get the rhythm...and the reason is my hips and spine are either attached (waltz, fighting) or separate (bellydancing) but I never attach hips to legs with spine separate--ok, that counts as an epiphany. Still, pico de gallo with extra garlic, and cilantro tastes ok to me.

BEAUTY: Beauty is strange. It is as John Cleese says about creativity more a mood than a thing; there is a spanish proverb as well, "Desire beautifies what is ugly." ...I think that the best of beauty is that reflection of Platonic good, but that form has so many varieties beauty is a matter of taste and familiarity. This one will need to be expanded on.

More later on these subjects.

HERE WE GO: Free form, chain of thought, stream of consciousness, why wait?

BEAUTY: It's strange, how more and more my ideas of beauty and desirability diverge from what I'm being sold, sod it, it's not strange at all, just the natural reaction to being manipulated when you're stubborn. The most beautiful things I've seen recently are lively eyes, and in different situations--talking artesional gin with Sam and Katherine, dancing swing with a bellydancer who was having too much fun, watching another bellydancer teach a class including ages from 3 to 73, and her love of the form. My role as a good human, somedays, is to make the space for this beauty by using my fierceness to push back the boundraries and allow people to experience their own beauty, their own visions. Sounds somewhat airyfairy, but when I'm guided by that ideal, it's easy to find the action to take.

BROTHERS: What a lot is wrapped up in that word. Amazing, successful, molding, moldy--different and the same. I'm blessed in my family, for I have become compassionate, tough and emphatic with their help. My poor mother did live in a male dormitory (4 sons and a husband) but she coped, and is now delighted by her sons. My older brother is handicapped, and it's the secret driver of what I am--for 17 years, until I went away to college, I shared a room with him and was taught every day to look out for him. This one fact still molds my life, as I prepare to take executorship of his life (wrong word, right idea) when my mother passes on. And it affects a lot why I am called both moody, peterpannish (not able to commit), sincere--I have always had an almost parental responsibility, that will not end, that I cannot see laying down. My other brothers are major parts of my life, who I see all the time, and have values and virtues separate from my own, but whom I would trust with everything. Some days. When we're not fighting. Woe be it if you mix in, though...

SPEED: Don't need it. Live in a fast paced intellectual environment, where speedy thought is prized. Fast economy, companies are concieved in garages, grow into startups, become giant behemoths of industry with huge market valuations, and fade away...Silicon Graphics? Remember them? SUN? Tandem? Netscape? Memorex? I'll take grace, which in motion allows you to not need speed because you're in the right place, in intellect allows you to weigh speed, and in spirituality accept the speed of change. In sports, I've always gone for ...combative economy? over speed, which could be defined as grace with a blow at the end--SCA fighting, basketball, karate, aikido, hurley, waltzing.

And I never got a vehicle to go fast--I always love motorcycles for the immediacy of the environment, not the speed of accelleration. As for the drug speed, I refer you to the Asylum Street Spanker song, "Beer". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvJGs6MhZM0

...and the internet wins again. Look! A paper Enigma machine! http://wiki.franklinheath.co.uk/index.php/Enigma/Paper_Enigma

I am enjoying reading your responses. :-) If you have words for me or want to think of some, I would take the meme back. Next week will be more writing of the nitty gritty type and a change would be welcome.
