Vancouver!

In metro vancouver after 2nd ferry adventure, hanging out with friend ("wife") and contemplating things other than breakfast (recently destroyed, urp!). Want to go back to Vancouver Island and take some of the back roads. Talked with some other motorcyclists on the ferry, got some great tips on where to go/what to do/what speed to do it at. Took a side road which was wonderful, and discovered a place where you can park a tent (or camper) on a lake shore for something like $5 a week, fish, have fires...it's full of people already but trees separate them. Saw a very inspiring garden on the Island, and also where I'm staying (friend Celdae's house). There's an exhibit at the Vancouver Maritime museum about "What makes an Explorer" that looks must see, and there's some other roads to ride. Oh, and they're shooting gangfight scenes in the local park here, fun to watch the choreography! Still want armor for the next trip, we'll see. Much other stuff, but three notes:
1. Monrovia plants (camellias and rhododendrons?) are now banned because of potential SOD (Sudden Oak Death) fungal infection. Bad that it happened, but Monrovia stepped up immediately, it seems.
2. Of all the bikes on the ferry, mine was the only one splattered with bugs...no one else had ridden more than 120 K. The fact that I had done about 500K amazed them. But it's a relatively short day for me.
3. The front of a ferry heading into a city at dusk is an amazing viewpoint. Small low islands resolve into being log rafts being towed to the mills. The sun glinted off all the windows for a moment. And a petrol (sp? bird!) rode the antenna mast there. The only omen was an eagle flying north, but I'm not sure what it means.
Offline probably until next Monday, going to do some side trips, back to Vancouver Island, off to the museum, and a road through the mountains.

If you are poking about up there, I thought perhaps you might be interested.
