Rodents!

Rodents have figured too much in my life recently. Before, it was the squirrels that have been eating all the walnuts. Now that the tree is dead that isn't so much a problem, and the birdfeeder is on a shaky enough mounting (coat hangers twisted together) that the squirrels can't climb it.

Of course, the mummified rat showed the lie about how clean I kept the house, and my denial thereby. But now the problem? Pocket Gopher. It's got a large network of tunnels, and last night came up under the fence, and complete pulled one of the new Roma tomatoes I'd just planted to replace the other three that it had eaten, and disappeared it.

I've used a hose. Time to think: stinkyfish!

*knocking on wood* The gophers haven't showed their ugly heads around here, at least not yet. Perhaps the population of gopher snakes has gone up. We used to have at least three kinds of snakes around here: gopher, king, and rattler. Years ago, my brother and I used to dig up the maze of tunnels out in the yard and periodically, we'd come across a gopher snake. Maybe you could import some gopher snakes.
