Rodents!

Rodents have figured too much in my life recently. Before, it was the squirrels that have been eating all the walnuts. Now that the tree is dead that isn't so much a problem, and the birdfeeder is on a shaky enough mounting (coat hangers twisted together) that the squirrels can't climb it.

Of course, the mummified rat showed the lie about how clean I kept the house, and my denial thereby. But now the problem? Pocket Gopher. It's got a large network of tunnels, and last night came up under the fence, and complete pulled one of the new Roma tomatoes I'd just planted to replace the other three that it had eaten, and disappeared it.

I've used a hose. Time to think: stinkyfish!

I still have a cat if you need to go that route. Then again, you probably have other cat owning friends closer...

*knocking on wood* The gophers haven't showed their ugly heads around here, at least not yet. Perhaps the population of gopher snakes has gone up. We used to have at least three kinds of snakes around here: gopher, king, and rattler. Years ago, my brother and I used to dig up the maze of tunnels out in the yard and periodically, we'd come across a gopher snake. Maybe you could import some gopher snakes.

doah....

Gophers suck mega-ass...

I think its time to get some advice from the worlds most famous Gopher-Killer... Carl Spackler.

"License to kill gophers by the government of the United Nations. Man, free to kill gophers at will. To kill, you must know your enemy, and in this case my enemy is a varmint. And a varmint will never quit - ever. They're like the Viet Cong - Varmint Cong. So you have to fall back on superior firepower and superior intelligence. And that's all she wrote."

I've used the flares method to some degree of success. Follow it up with a flooding & flares on the fresh holes right as you see them. And so far **Knock on wood** no issues... Now if i can only stop the lil buggers from nibbling my Cucumbers!!!! G'Luck!!

Never kill when you can overkill

There's always the "total war" method of gopher combat. See:

Massive overkill for our apps, but looks like fun :-)

Hey! I get to go to BurningMan afterall!
