Rain comes to Copenhagen, especially Christiana. Which is cool, but the police have cleared out all the open drugs. Still, walking distance from here with funky art, cool people, and a nice (but smokey in a european sense) music venue.

Change in thoughts: Saying No to Technology. Combining thoughts of src and thoughts of Mr. CM, I'm going to cut around my indecision about what to do, by listing what I'm not going to do, especially on the technology front:

1. No more vehicles. In fact, fix one of the autos up and move it off. I'm not going to get a biodiesel car unless I get rid of BOTH the current cars. Sell the boat. Dump the excess bicycles that have accumulated, and other vehicles.
2. Sell the freezer in the garage. A dream from someone else. But I'll keep dehydrating food...
3. Fix the bicycle up with a carrier, so that I can use it to pick stuff up in a 5 mile radius...It'd be cool to have a Christiana bike...www.christiania.org/bikesframe.html but that's not going to happen.
4. By the same token, pick up a local bikelock and also put a stand on the bike.
5. Any computer bits not being used, give away.
6. Get rid of the uninstalled dishwasher.
7. Install or pitch the plastic gutters.
8, Move TV out of main area.

But I will:

1. Continue to dehydrate food.
2. Keep on being a bibliophiliac. And sell the suckers back.
3. Throw more parties.
4. Move music and pictures onto a laptop.
5. Wireless laptop.

Mine into storage, as long as you're there.

Those Christiana bicycles are neat, eh? But expensive as hell. A friend of my uncle's had one stollen and he couldn't even afford to replace it. You might also think about getting some panniers for your bike. Those were pretty useful when I had a bike in Europe...that and a basket on the front. (:

I tried to bring my bicycling lifestyle back to the States with me when I returned from Europe. It didn't work out very well for very long, even when I worked within biking distance of home. I'm not certain why that is. Social attitudes? Laziness? Perceived waste of time? The fact, I often ended up having to fetch my car to go places anyway? I don't know. I hope you will be able to make a better run of it than I did.

Have fun in Denmark!

TV will really suck your brain out, especially when you have cable. We cut back to only broadcast, and that's helped enormously.

No more vehicles? How will you get to events?

Spendy bikes... I did some digging and came up with this list of eco-transports:

HPM Long Haul
Long John
Bilenky Cargo Bike
Kemper Filibus
ANT Frontaloadontome

All very expensive. However, old bikes are really cheap. Monster garage anyone?

You can take our trailer. It should be good to about 120lbs, and the price is right for a family member. It's in really good shape and Teddy is too big to ride in it now. It's very cost and resource efficient.

Moving to laptop is good -- I'm really enjoying the IBM T-41 + Suse Linux combo. It's really nice if you're going to be on the road and want to drag your projects with you. You're still kinda limited for storage tho (music and video files eat lots of space). I'm still running the central RAID and the combo is working great. And wouldn't you know it, I've got a laptop here for you....

TV: Either get rid of it entirely, or go the Tivo route if there are shows you sometimes want to watch. Then you can decide if you feel like watching or not.

Gutters we can deal with. Let me know when; I'll bring a ladder and the cordless drills.

Thanks!

No, no, just surplus vehicles. Like, don't get an extra one until I regularize the load. Probably use panniers and rig a basket. You the Man!
