It's two AM, the beer is cold...
this is not a Golden Earring song. Jann came over to take us to a rave, and I was up for it at midnight, but the exit time (best possibilities) mean it's an hour trip or US $40 to get to the rave. And given the culture, there's sure to be smoke of various kinds.
I wouldn't mind, but the probability of difficult customs tomorrow is high. Don't want to add marijuana smell to the fact that I'm importing bulbs, have been on a farm in the trip (vinyards in France, sheepfields near Bath), and have washed my passport--clean, but the front page is delaminated partually, so I have been getting pulled off to look at it.
Then, when I get to DC, I'm going to a 7 year old's birthday party--and given the flight length and time difference--staying up all night is a pass. No worries! But how often are you invited to an underground rave in Copenhagen?
Wow, this travelling sure opens up a lot of opportunities. Ate Kringle this morning. Sated completely my internet junkitude (although the fix fades faster than a politician's promise) (I think my #1 goal when I get back is to not be so hooked on this...good luck to me!
Got to the National Museum today--the Source for the Norse. Starts from 4000 BC and goes to the present day. Swords, armor, shields, burials, ships, clothes, money, rune stones--Denmark has it all (the National Museum gets first dibs on anything discovered in the country.) All housed in a 18th century palace. Very nice. Interesting and important things to have learned: 1. Viking swords forged from bog iron folded many times were forged up to about 42' long. 2. Flint should be stored in damp peat for a bit to make sure it's not fragile--then stored in warm sand beneath the hearth for a bit, then worked. 3. Once bronze weapons started showing up, the flint weapons were worked to resemble them. 4. Long before any other religion, axes were worshiped. 5. The reason we have so much stuff is that before Christianity changed things, after battles the weapons of the defeated were damaged then sacrificed into the bog (or the ocean). 6. Danes were about the size then they are now (and there are some large Danes walking around). 7. Denmark is the trading hub for up here, still. Major companies up here include Maersk (shipping and logistics), Lego (children's toys), Ecco (shoes).
Onto the plane tomorrow--DC for 3 days, then Texas, then home.
