unexpected; what recommendations for things to do? Planning to hit the gym every day, work on friends house every day, go to memorial next Saturday, then drive like a fiend to San Jose on Sunday, work on Monday. Arboretum? Rose Garden? Historical Tours? Any killer music?

Perhaps just see people I didn't expect to see?

The downtown area by the harbor is a lot of fun. It has a cool shopping area with some interesting stores. You could also catch the ferry to Vancouver and have tea, though you probably need your passport for that.

*Pike Place Market - good for a stroll. You can hit the Flagship Starbucks store, check out the fall harvest of everything, watch some guys disrespect a fish and have lots of good snackies.

*Take a ferry to Bainbridge Island and back. There's good pizza and ice cream on the island side, and it's fun.

*The arboretum is lovely, and the weather is supposed to be decent, this week. Rent a canoe and putter about in the weeds!

*The Seattle Underground Tour is amusing - do it in the evening for the "adult" version. It's not too expensive, and worth about what you pay for it, but you'll learn stuff.

*The Ballard Locks are kind of keen - I don't know if now is the time for the Salmon running, but there's a lovely park that surrounds it. And then you can head out to Golden Gardens for a little beach time. (Ray's Boathouse has a nice Happy Hour, too.)

*If you need to go to the top of something for a good view, go to the Smith Tower downtown, not the Space Needle. It's cheaper and less overrun with tourists. If you do the Underground Tour, you get a discount, too.

*Both the Aquarium and the Zoo are lovely!

*There are several art museums: SAM, downtown (varied collection), SAAM, Volunteer Park (Asian collection); Frye, Capitol Hill (Modern); Burke, University District (NW Native Art); Henry, University District (varied collection)...there may be a couple more that I can't think of.

*You should always be able to find a stellar restaurant at any price point for any cuisine. Let me know if you'd like some recommendations. :)

*Pick up a copy of The Stranger or The Weekly for the music calendar. Clubs all over the damn place, lots of interesting selections.

Feel free to ping me if you have questions or want more ideas!

Stephie (aka Viscountess Megan Brenna) lives in Seattle and says that a restaurant called the Night Kitchen is great. If you would like Stephie's contact info let me know. http://www.nightkitchenseattle.com/

Also, there is a Science Fiction Museum that Jeff and I added to our must see list when we manage to get up there to visit his brother and also Stephie and her family.
