But to start with, here are three things I love about you...
* Your endless devotion to Art and Craft * Your willingness to try new things, no matter how crazy or wondrous * Your voice. I've loved listening to you sing, tell stories, and speak since my very first SCA event. In my head and heart, your booming baritone will always be linked to the joy of discovering my tribe.
Oh, I guess I"ll just put what I love about you, John!
I love how quickly and completely you can turn into someone's dear friend I love that you have so many completely unrelated interests in the world, and will teach your skills, but can also learn so rapidly on something that interests you. I love that your old-fashioned, gentelmanly and genteel manners -- they are so endearing.
You are the person I point to when I want to illustrate the difference between The Order of Chivalry and The Romance of Chivalry. the Order sees Chivalry as something that should be a part of one's actions, to a lesser or greater degree. But the seekers of the Romance of Chivalry (romance in both the modern and the medieval meaning), which to me you exemplify, sees Chivalry as an ideal to immerse onself in, to constantly seek, to idealise and desire, and to treasure each facet of it that you are able to learn. Chivalry is the Grail quest - the seeking is the test of your soul, and the end may never be reached, but is worth seeking all the same.
I love your voice. One day you and I and a lute and a guitar and a harp and a few dozen books of songs are going to spend a long evening that may take all weekend, possibly with a few carefully chosen companions, and we are going to sing everything: period, pop, rock, folk, classic, bubblegum and filk. In fact, I think we should book a date and a place and make it happen. For some weird reason, I've always wanted to visit the Catskills...
I love your passion for food. 'Nuff said - we're on the same wavelength and anything more needs to be said at great length with a full mouth.
I must agree with the "I love your voice" comment; some of my best memories of you involve you in song. Not just the richness and beauty of your voice itself, but also the way you can take any tune and compose new words in real time, seamlessly. Add to this list your laugh and your smile and it is easy to understand why you count among my favorite people in the West; I miss you!
Cheating :-) 1. Your voice... 2. Your desire to make the world a better place, one scheme at a time. 3. You open your heart again and again despite all of life's disappointments.

You were the first man to ever "dip" me.
We laughed and listened to music to and from Estrella over 22 years ago.
You are inspiring.
