It was ...interesting. Too much drama that I got sucked into. Too many physical problems that I wouldn't want to have. Too much hype. Completely unexpected bonuses and insights...
Too much drama: Tug's other friends showed up Wednesday, and proceeded to be Happy the Raver Child and Sulky the Ditched, Who left MOOP. Since I had already claimed the Mr. Grouchy hat due to the physical problems, and since every time I left camp it got trashed, this meant that I got more and more pissed at Sulky, who had problems of her own, and had never agreed to go in on "big infrastructure" (my words, not hers.) It was darkly humorous to hear her bitching about how little Happy helped her (Happy did pick up around camp) and also about the event: Too cold, too hot, too dusty, too big...
Physical stuff: Started the week with a cold, which I out slept. But sleeping in the truck fouled up my back, and the sciatica acted up, which makes walking very painful. Stretching helped some, but couldn't really lay down on the carpets because of the Moop.
Too much infrastructure: This gets its own post. But if I'm the one always cleaning and doing dishes, and someone elses loses a piece of clothing a day into the evap pond, it's somewhat strange.
Hype: The burning of the Man is hyped. The Thunderdome is hyped. Both were interesting, but I'll take my pyromania in smaller crowds, and after watching Thunderdome fighting, I can see why my friends wanted to see what happened if you put SCA fighters in there. We would scare people.
Insights: Later....after sleep.
Home again, burn again, jiggety jig.
If I did a beach burn in February, using dried Christmas trees, would you make Art to burn, or bring food, or do infrastructure to make it happen?

Date: 2004-09-06 02:50 am (UTC)February... theres a holiday in Feb all about the return of the light... It's called candlemas, Bridgit, and Ground Hogs Day (or Diminutive Subterainian Liberation Day if you prefer). If I may be so bold as to suggest the date of feb. 2nd... I think a small burning man type thing would be very cool and appropriate. And since I'be been exploring paper mache anywayz...

Date: 2004-09-06 08:13 am (UTC)Yeah, that's me to a "T". Each year it gets a little more refined, a little simpler.
Somehow I feel you would have enjoyed seeing our camp last year, when we failed to meet up with each other on the playa. One car, one tarp, two chairs, a cooler. Nothin' else. It was a nice, minimal year.
We're back too, BTW.

Date: 2004-09-06 09:14 am (UTC)Don't have dates for them, but it may not be that difficult to find.
I still wanna go, but the actually burning part of it is the least reason for it.

Date: 2004-09-06 10:44 am (UTC)In Germany, they (at least some Germans in the north) keep their Xmas trees until around Easter time at which time the dry Tannenbaeume get burned. Lovers take their partners by the hand and they leap together through the flames. Doing so is supposed to make for a happy relationship. There is much drinking and eating. There is nothing like a bunch of drunken Germans jumping through flames.
Yeah, I'd come out for a Tannenbaum burn. I'm not jumping through any flames, though. (:

Sorry to hear about drama & camp BS... i'd think that most folks are going there to get away from all that.
I'd definately bring some grub/bbq for folks to enjoy. And if my brewing project comes along, also 5 gal of homebrew.
Beach Burn!
Date: 2004-09-06 09:26 pm (UTC)Wish I'd been there bro....

Date: 2004-09-07 02:06 pm (UTC)So, yes, if I could get away from school, I'd come, and celebrate. I'm sorry your experience this year was difficult. I can sympathize -- I keep wanting to come out to BM, but I'm afraid to myself until I'm certain that I will have a reasonable level of mobility.
