They had bike locks like that in Japan, but I'm pretty sure they were on the front wheel. Which, considering even *I* could pull off a front wheel, wouldn't do all that much good. :->

Are you talking about the bike locks that have a little bar that comes out, making it impossible for the wheel to rotate? If that is the case, we had those in Germany and they only worked well as a deterent if one's bike was kind of old and ratty (as mine were). Otherwise, a cable or other type of lock was also employed to keep one's bike safe from theft.

When are you expecting to be home? I want to kayak!
