1. waltz training. I'll be holding weekend waltz trainings near my house for Chaz&Karen's wedding. If you're interested, let me know; I'll set up a maillist.

2. Hiking practice. I want to walk Skyline to the Sea ....sometime. So I want to plan hikes, all the time. Again, let me know; I'll start a contact group.

3. Kite flying. I want to do this. Lemme know if you want to as well.

Ok, yay! Red Elvises tomorrow!

Vegetable stock (shallots, carrot, celery) 2 days cooked. Throw in 2 handfuls of nettles, let cook 4 hours on low. Good flavor, very refreshing, rather bland. Add 1/2 cup pickled garlic with vinegar, cook on high for 8 hours. Much more kick!

WOULD I DO IT AGAIN? Sure. Nice flavor.
WHAT WOULD I DO DIFFERENT? Chop the nettle small first. Add a little sorrel.
WOULD I EAT IT AGAIN? All week, baby!

In other news, this week is the sales meeting, so it'll be 16 hour days all week. Tallyho!

pump in cavitation.

Panic over sales being missed due to known hardware bugs. "MUST BE DONE TODAY!" "DRAG ALL PEOPLE IN!"

"WHERE IS THE UPDATE FROM THIS OTHER CUSTOMEr! WHY DON'T YOU KNOW?"

la la la la...same song. Coworker bitching about it. la la la la.

Company culture of panic, yah, well said.

My aunt Jean Ann died Sunday night. It wasn't unexpected. She was taken off of life support Sunday morning. I remember her holding midnight madness parties for the assembled cousin gang, where we could stay up late if we were good, and giving us bugs to eat (chocolate covered ants.). Godspeed, Aunt, and I'll party in your name.

Cousin Wanda's soon.

Adriane W. died--I know her son much better than her, but I'm glad I got to be glib for her at the steakhouse. I'll wear the tie I was given there in honor of her, tomorrow. I feel really bad for her son. Gonna make an interesting TnT game this weekend.

Tomorrow I have two interviews for my company, for Escalation Engineers. I asked my manager about my moving up, and he told me that I didn't have the necessary skills for the role. I asked him to test me on it and he said I hadn't demonstrated deep dive and code reading abilities yet, so no go...but I have...but he's all about that block. So again I'll be interviewing for someone who does less work than me and will be paid more than me. Very fun. Twice. In honor of this, I'm not going to work any extra hours, it'll be good to learn how to set good limits.

Plants are sprouting, early mustard is flowering, I need to get starts going. It'll happen.

memeage, you could get 5 portraits from any time, for your own display only...who?

1. Shakespear, as a long soliloquy.
2. James Christensen
3. Ray Troll, in a mural involving frogs
4. Rembrandt, with some of my extended SCA gang...the Night Drunk Watch
5. Teleri Tawel, who did one of the me I would dream of being: http://ca.icynic.com/~knowles/HtmlArt/knight.jpg

Hey, I never saw this Ray Troll Piece before: (NSFW) (Nipples Showing, Frogs Wriggling)

1. Cooked chicken over root vegetables in the oven last night. Tasted excellent, and I woke up feeling good. Later today, going to pick up more root vegetables and roast them, and give them in bags to some deserving people. Including me. Plans also included roasting garlic cloves.

2. Today I take the next step down the path of the Saluminati (BeoWulfric branch) and start corning beef to make pastrami. Also, if I can get to it, crock up some saurkraut basics.

3. Fence is blowing down, so that's another project.

4. They say if you open your wishes to the universe, the experience will come; sometimes, the opposite is true--if you open yourself to the universe, it will clearly show you to change directions. Why am I moaning about this jorb instead of sidelining it? Hello, gray matter, GET THE FUCKIN' CLUE! 8 hours and gone, baby, slammin' tickets like screen doors.

5. Today is bittersweet, the Moxie goes away--back to home and boyfriend and cat, good for her, and off my budget, good for it, but man, she's easy to live with, and appreciates cooking, and is funny...if you need your stuff gently massaged, cleaned, and lovingly arranged, with Moxie and a kind eye, she's the woman for the task. Really, everyone who comes to my house compliments me on how much it's improved. She'll be back in early March, but not spending a lot of time with me. Oh, and she packs stuff really well.

(Bonus) I taught waltz at the Danzhaus last week, which was fun, and one of the dancers was Sky, who had a turkish name, and had a leather coachman's hat, black eyebrows, glasses, and was tall and skinny. He danced with a martial artist...I just taught Chaz and Karen archetypes to dance. What wonderful practice! Open the wine, we're going to waltz! Coming soon.

(Bonus II) The cowboy poker party got held. It is a cool thing. I can do cool things like that. Why am I not doing more cool things like that?

Off to fix the fence...Ta!

Work changes...home changes...

I am off center.

In the next four weeks:
1. Write a letter or call a friend every day; include poetry as often as possible.
2. Do some martial arts of any form, every day.
3. Cook, often enough to eat something selfcooked every day.
4. have at least one adventure a week. This week? Teaching at the DanzHaus thursday. Next week? Exploratorium!
5. Host a dinner party once a month. So, host a dinner.

that one of the martial artist teachers in my life put out to the group. As I sit on this sunny day (moments from leaving to go watch, and possibly play, football) I have trouble committing to resolutions. Life is complicated, and hard. But there's three words that I think I'll muse on:

1. Compassion

2. Gambatte!

3. Radical Self-Sufficiency.

Three words, from three different practices which have all helped me.

I've been doing OK on them, but not as well as I could.

Hmm.

Naw. They don't work. Disgruntlement, Discontent and offers to help. I'm social, and realizing that it's somewhat poisonous to be social at work--those people are not my friends, they're barely of my tribe.

I'll enlist help and work on the disgruntlements. For now, 5 things that went right in the last year:
1. Finances. A real job really helps.
2. House Junk. Yeah Junk whisperer!
3. Career transition. cleaner and less depressing than I espected.
4. Mental attitude--not bad!
5. Cooking--mmm bacon!

And so we begin the new year, with bacon to smoke and pickles to make. Excelsior!

It's a good evening, when due to the offices of one's brother, you eat a fine repast, served by the most elegant yet butch waiter (who did hiss his "S" a bit), arguing the virtues of gingerbread versus cheesecake as a Yule Feast ending, try a new food for you (Burger Imperial) and an excellent wine to go with it (A Santa Maria area Pinot Noir...shades of Sideways!) and educate the waiter on Squirrel Stew, so he does his "cute little squirrel" imitation, and the manager on the 12 days of Cristmas and WHY someone would send pipers and drummers...

...and on the way out, the manager gives you is Jerry Garcia designed Christmas tie.

Good evening, I'd say.

Oh, all the money that e'er I spent,
I spent it in good company,
and all the harm that e'er I did,
alas, it was to none but me.
And all that I've done for want of wit
to memory now I can't recall,
so fill for me the parting glass;
good night, and joy be with you all.

Oh, all the comrades that e'er I had
were sorry for my going away,
and all the sweethearts that e'er I had
would beg me one more day to stay.
But since it falls unto my lot
that I should rise and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call,
"Good night, and joy be with you all."

Oh, of all the good time's that we've had;
In memory I keep them all,
and if to you I was ever bad--
I'll hope you'll forgive, or not recall
But Amanda Gerhard Kendal you've inspired me,
and many more as I can see--
So I'll gently sing, and share a parting glass;
"The joy you brought will never pass."

First 2 verses, folk trad, best version for me done by Leigh Ann Hussey of Annwn;
Third verse my own, in loving memory of Baroness Amanda/Nancy Stevens, who because of geography I will not see in this life again (although she is still here.)
Thank you, Nancy, you are an inspiration to me, and many.

(Amanda Gerhard Kendal doesn't scan as well as others, but it's what Facebook allows.)

Mojo

How does one get it back?

This is the question of the moment. While I am sick, I am contemplating an electronics project I promised to fix.

I used to get things done. Meetings, parties, electronics; long motorcycle rides, black belt, white belt, classes developed and taught; bad poetry, good inspiration...

now I go to work and try to not react badly to the management which distrusts me, work extra hours, and go home.

2 sick days show me that this existance is hollow...

time to find my mojo.

1. Thankfullness...doing that on facebook...every day thankfull for one thing. Wow. It's really positively affecting my mood!
2. I overschedule and underappear. There are too many good things going on and I want to do be all there! Priority one is work, however, and so instead of multiple engagements, I need so slow down and focus on the fewer ones.
3. Resolved: Be more like Sherlock Holmes: LOOK at people. LIke this guy here:
http://www.petapixel.com/2011/12/05/triptychs-of-strangers-details-of-subjects-captured-in-three-frames/#more-42718
4. As a holiday treat, I will eat a piece of fruit every morning. This morning: Yellow and orange, banana and tangerine.
5. I love the self monitoring this list of 5 gives me, and BIG thanks to nibuca who showed me the way!

Waiting for England to call (London Calling.) And I am thankful. I am employed, when many of my friends are not. I work indoors, no heavy lifting, with some very fun people on occasion. I get to learn new things (tonight, zero conf in IP networks. Tomorrow--HA and it's definitions.) Work pays for medical, which I need to take more advantage of, but I am thankful for it. I have a loverly clean house thanks to the Junque Whisperer (Or the Joy Wistfully) which opens the rooms for other projects.

My health is good (same old same old) my friends are cool, and I got to play Tunnels and Trolls, Civ II (freeware) and British Rails this weekend (crayons! Coal, from Newcastle! )

Resolutions: I will spend 4 work hours in every day working in the lab, if I don't have anything better to do. An hour of exercise in a fun way every day. Embracing the darkness with my yule spirit. And communicate and community!
