I had the great fortune on Saturday of hanging out with two different groups of successful, artistic, beautiful people, and I was struck by some thoughts (as I often am) but took note of them (as one does, not often enough.)

The key to success is persistance and kaizen, always improving. The most creative people there were the people who made the most stuff...Katherine Becvar with her dress, the Neverwas haul crew with their vehicles, Kimric Smythe with his steam engines (and distilled liquor). But the key isn't to have an idea, it's to have multiple builds and some research, to make many things.

My gosh, her gown was amazing...it was totally beautiful.

The waltz teaching I do receives a lot of compliments. It's interesting, writing this here, I do that class a lot and don't think much of it, because, well, I do it a lot...but it gets people who hate dance lessons dancing. Huh. I don't value it as much because it's easy for me because I've polished it so much. Perception!

Huh. Gobsmacked. Off to think about this. And teach waltzing Thursday in SF and Friday in PA, talk with me if you want to come learn.

Friday 5!

1. Work. Have lost all will to work here. Luckily, they don't seem to care, as long as I'm not fixing other people's problems.
2. So tired of that, will get back to this later.

1. Work. Chchchchanges. New VP means lots of shuffling. We'll see how it goes; one year anniversary just past. New managament==rededication; I think I have it in me, but for what reason would I want to dedicate myself? Communication, training, change...need to figure out how to work that. Still under PIP (week 11). Still watching P. R. be groomed to be manager. Still working extra hours...why? Not very motivated.

2. Health. Toothholes are healing fine; now to the doctor. Took some steps on the weight thing, now to take more (Everybody's shuffling.) Starting to move more but OMG am I out of it. Not fighting this weekend; it would hurt too much...not at War, not at Pennsic. Need to ease back into it.

3. House. Housemates working on painting, stuff still flowing out, need to pry some time free from work, really. Somewhat in a project logjam. Will resolve.

4. SCA. Going to W/A, going to Pennsic, going to be fighting again. Need to pull some other things together.

5. Social! Need to get it moving, moving. Still too much slack, work, lack of focus.

1. Saturday Night: Zen Dessert at Napoleatano Pizza thanks to Joyce; Scorpions thanks to Jen Good, all was good. Man, they Rock like a Hurricane!
2. Sunday: ADIOS PANTALONES Crosston meeting, chives, singing, fondue...ebil plans...
3. Monday (work) Shopping! 6' pry bar, and Fish and Chips and vacation discussion.
4. Tuesday: Shoe shopping, Lunch with Mom (thanks Mom!), "The Tempest" at Cal Shakes with nephew.
5. Today: Either visit to Santa Cruz, or rest.
6. Tomorrow: Dancing in SF
7. Weekend: A&S and game!

that I'll be much happier exercising. I have new shoes that I can wear over an hour before my toes start hurting. I have signed up for a bootcamp, a race, West/An Tir, Pennsic...why is it so hard to suit up and go?

Love.

Love is strange for me, because I can be completely immersed in it, yet not have the ability to set boundraries--it's something I have to be careful of, as I have some things I must protect, and I also have some slight paranoia--so Love is something that is on, or off, and is Beauty, and I get blocked up when I can't express it.

Been awhile. Good for the brain. Marysdress obliged. Theoretical rules:

Comment to this post and I will pick seven things I would like you to talk about. They might make sense or be totally random. Then post that list, with your commentary, to your journal. Other people can get lists from you, and the meme merrily perpetuates itself.

And the words, for me? Good ones, thinky ones!

Salsa, beauty, brothers, speed, love, home, regrets

1. Tiiiiired. Combination of long term overwork, slight cold, and really mind numbing tasks at work right now--support log reviews--and my brane isn't so good right now. Lack of exercise. NOt enough social simulation. I was tired last weekend. I'm exhaustipated now...too exhausted to give a shit.

2. Didn't make Beltane, but it was a good decision. Decided that work is a lost cause last Friday when the manager responded to my complaints of over-escalation with "This is my looking like I care face, I can hold it as long as you feel you need to talk." Riiiiight...

3. Social things. Did a cheesegoo on Wednesday, made some mistakes but some improvements--blanching the brocoli and asparagus is a big win, crusty bread huge win. Mistake: Sutter home white, go with Trader Joe's. Mistake: MUST grate cheese. Tried using the electric fondue pot, worked a charm. Pears and apples and cheese fondue, good. Bananas and dark chocolate? Buy more bananas!

4. Kindergardners singing songs with sign language are fantastic. Kindergardners whining about not wanting to do things and setting off their sisters, not so much. Godchild is good.

5. I cannot get the songs from LFMAO out of my head, having seen the videos. Don't know if this is good or bad.

This weekend: On call.
Next weekend: Maker's Faire, Help Matt at Investiture
Then: ClockWorK Alchemy
June: Wedding, off, AnS!, Working.
July: West/An Tir...holy crap! Time to get working!

2. Work. Well. Tried to take today off. Didn't take. Big part of it is avoidance; no way I can meet any set of the goals for me, so keep trying but don't set an end point. From now on the clock, I hope.

3. Modern SCA. Won't make the M/C war, focusing on Maker's Faire and ClockWork Alchemy. Some of my friends have hung up their swords, is it that time for me?

4. House. Learned today that the blue pigment in the house trim paint had settled out to the sides...that's why it looks so green. Ah.

5. Health. Need to get on this. BOOT CAMP!

As much as anything else, that makes me stay and fail here. I'm not failing, really, I'm just unhappy with the startup atmosphere. And my addictive personality, which has lead me to game for 3 days straight, work out to black belt levels, and learn many many things, is channeled into being here.

From now on, a planner;
from here on, exercise every day;
from this moment forward, a goal achieved an hour
(that is NOT on facebook.)
Every day I will use my talent with people;
every night I will get some wholesome sleep.

(riiiiiiight. Workin' on it. Every day I'm...Shufflin'!)

aaaah. Chaz and Karen, Karen and Chaz, that was a wedding! Organization by Jen^2, solemnization by myself, some dancing, great food and cake (although I didn't partake of much), wonderful people dressed beautifully.

Now, to finish unclogging the kitchen sink and fixing the disposal, and preparing mentally for the work week next week, and figuring out how to get certain Seattlites to the South Bay...

So that I am out having grand adventures with friends, rather than babysitting developer's mistakes at customers. They don't pay enough to have given up my life.

That is all.

Well, except: Renewed the gym membership, the number of the beast right now is 405.

1. Trader Joe's Smoke grind on onions being dehydrated: Not so much, didn't add any flavor. Did it as a two step, got better texture, still great taste, no smoke. Either soak in smoke flavor, or actually smoke.

2. Smoked some chicken and veggies, was great, but the smoker actually does consume more than the extension cord could provide...oops.

3. Tried the smoked salted tritip, yep, didn't soak the salt out enough. Good texture, color not that great, waaaaaay too salty.

4. Mirepoix and chicken soup, always a win.

5. Fermented up some dills, easy peasy.

Tonight: chicken soup with leeks and rice, purple cauliflower dressed in lemon (trippy!). Put some strawberrys in to dehydrate, and soak some of the beef, for sandwitches tomorrow.

Saturday Six, OK.

1. Just got told that my attempt to fix a problem would be reported to my VP. Well, OK, great demotivator there....I really need to learn to STFU and that means GTFO so I can FIGMO and FISHDO. AFTW! (Anacronyms For The Win!)

2. Fondue Waltz FAIL. No waltzing. We were having so much fun with the fondue we never got there. Plus I worked from 4:15 to 5:20, AM to PM, after a 14 hour day the day before, so not so energetic.

3. I am going to the movies solo. I need to develop movie pals.

4. Idiot co-worker agreed with a customer that we would help them. He failed to realize the time. 6AM EST SUN. So, do I stay up, or set alarm, or forward to his phone?

5. Seed gen I need some work on. Luckily, plant starts!

6. Cutting whites has made a difference. Next up: M/N/E light workouts, every day.

Off to John Carter!

Sigh.

Well, the last post was so successful...waltz and fondue on 3/15, my place, 7 or later...earlier and you get to move furniture.

FRIDAY 5! PLACES TO GO, THINGS TO DO!

1. Go to the National Cathedral. Spot the Darth Vader Grotesque. Sing in the church. Attend a mass there.
2. Do a fighting pilgramage...get my kit together, and go all the way to Alaska, fighting every day. If at all possible, hit one of: Clinton, An Tir West, Penguin Crusade, Oerthan Coronet. Take Beorn if I can. (Probably not...)
3. Complete my vow. Study aikido, get the belt, go to Japan, walk Fujiyama. Bring home the staff. (I have many, many vows.)
4. Get the band back together, and have another birthday sing thing--take over a restaurant, and you have to perform to attend. It was an epic party, as I remember.
5. Compastella. Do at least a week, if not two, of the pilgramage.

BONUS 2!
6. Go to Costa Rica. Buy coffee. Get Teeth fixed.
7. Take my Mom back to France, this time a food and wine of Northern France tour.
