Tuesday.   Tuesday?   Tuesday.

Using the advice of the BMW mechanic and shop guys, I had them order the brake line I needed for the bike.  $106 dollars for about 18" of hose with fittings; well, it's made in Germany.   I need the bike working with the car not, and anyway, I can't fix this myself.

So they order the part.  And I'm ready to spend the $200 to have it installed, top off the brake system, pressure check everything, right?

Tuesday.

Supposed to be done by 2 today.  They just called; the part is 1 off--it's the left hand side, and I need the right, and that's not available.

Until Monday.  When they're closed.   So the bike's not available until Tuesday.

And I need to go give a tasting this later afternoon, so now is the time for all good fools to figure out packing options.  I've got hardcases on the bike.   Not on the loaner, which is no where near as nice.      Well, at least I have a loaner.

On a completely unrelated note, the varmit is back in spades.  And now I remember...about 3 years ago I went on a trip, and on the trip bought a bag of deep deep purple tulips which I brought back, after making sure they had the US paperwork.  I gave them to Teresa to plant, but kept a few for myself, which I planted with the daffodils in the center of the lawn ring.  And they never came up.  The gopher wasn't obvious then, so I blamed the problem on inadequate soil prep and moved on.   Teresa planted hers in the back yard, where eventually the dogs dug them up, I think.  I don't know.      It's interesting that this variety of tulip is so popular I see it in all the gardening centers now.   And it was then, too, and I carried them through germany before flying back to vote in the November election.

Shoulda stayed in Europe, and had Teresa buy the bulbs locally.  Oh well.  Someday I'll see them bloom.

Lotsa changes swirling around right now, still having to have plans take a back seat to on-demand life. Suck, but better than not getting other things done. So, alas, no dance party this pass. Might do the Pratchett dinner, but it'll be short notice. Apologies to several people who fell off the list this week.

Odds are good at this point that travel in the NY will be enormously curtailed. Not that there's not lots of good things to do around here, but I do love to travel.

Ob. Christmas content: Eggnog. The smell of pines. Santa Claus and Black Peter. The thrill of potentially getting coal! Singing. Dicken's Faire, with dancing and scenes and costumes. Dressing up, gifts and eating: From the Pumpkin to the Turkey to the Tree is good times.

Lots of other stuff going on. If I don't get directly to you, have a Happy Christmas! Go hug a tree. And if you can't find the spirit, find a child and share theirs.

Off to wrap prezzies!

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Tuesday I hit [livejournal.com profile] psychic_frog in the head but it was light so I had to do it again. (-10 points). In May I bought food porn for [livejournal.com profile] madbaker but he already had made it, corrected the recipe, posted it as a resolution, accidently mentioned it in front of a cow-orker, and shared it with the neighbors, so it bored him. (-10 points). Last week I tried to give [livejournal.com profile] eonathorhalla a wet willie, but she knows me and just laughed at me, causing 2 men to spill their drinks. She's good that way. (-5 points). In July I committed genocide...as an Engineering class project. We made the TV, luckily they didn't focus on the little figures on the aquaducts. Sorry about that, [livejournal.com profile] riolent (-5000 points). In June I gave [livejournal.com profile] thread_walker a life-saving caffiene transfusion but I haven't taught any classes for her, so that's cancelled out. (50 points).

Overall, I've been large (-4975 points). For Christmas I deserve a fresh grapefruit!

Sincerely,
Learnteach

That grinding noise on the brakes? Rotors screwed, no shoes, calipers not doing so well, replace all the brakes. I think they saw me coming. $1500...but yeah, the brakes weren't working that well all of a sudden...

Better get some work soon.

1. Saw two preying mantises mating.
2. Saw, at "Strings", a "Visual Concert", or a slideshow with music. Interesting.
3. Started the process for sales work.
4. (sounds like) killed the caliper on the front left brake on the van.
5. Bought fresh corn, in November. Right off the farm! November!

Fought.

In order:
1. Tracking invites by LJ: Bad. Fail. Gotta call and/or email.
2. Posting event info to LJ: Good. Saw people not expected, crowd was different from normal.
3. LJ tracking plus unclearness on time/events meant that the bonfire didn't go. Bad. But V. brought sparklers, good.
4. Cheese fondue separated (I think my heat is too high). Bad. Xtal commented on the chocolate, and I turned it down. 1 cup burgandy, one bag dark, 4 squares baking, WOW on rasberries, bananas, apples...wish I could have found some decent strawberries, but not the season, here or Chile.

Mmmm. Fondue.

To follow up the (late delivered but not lamented) Dangerous Book for Boys gift (GREAT gift) I'd like to give as a 12th Night present a Book for the Page, being an SCAish equivalent of the DBfB.

What would you put into a book of 1-3 page vignettes and instructions for 8-14 year old boys (aiming squarely at about 11 or so)? What people of the middle ages are inspirational? What songs, what stories, what games, what skills, what tricks? What specific SCA knowledge would you want to pass on?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts! When I finish the book, I'll make it available to others, after I have gifted it to my pages.

Dunno what it is, but today I've been unfocused, unlucky, and self-injurious. I'm wiping it clean and keeping a low profile.

It's nothing major--lost my car keys, now it's raining, went to HomeD to get some overcleaner, ripped my shin open on a display, can't reach Dad on the phone and people are asking, feel out of it.

Residual of the cold? Bad spirits? I'll just lay low, remember friends, and wait for the sun tomorrow. Although we do need the rain...and the oven is cleaning.

Not the obvious one. Enjoy All's Holy, and its Eve, but

REMEMBER REMEMBER THE 5th of November!

FIRE AND FOOD at John's place.

It's Monday, and as dusk falls (remember, an hour early) I'll light the bonfires and the fondue pots, and we'll dine throughout the evening on roasted meat and veggies and cheese. Fondue will be on starting at 7; we'll do a cheese and a chocolate.

If you plan on attending, let me know. That's a good time to find out where the party is, too!

I am an amature--I do so many things for the love of doing them. Alas, this leads me to project overload, and I have trouble staying focussed and completing things, and there are SO MANY projects. I need to focus. Normally work provides the focus, or some aspect of group activity, but it hasn't been doing so recently. And, oh, shiney!

Lighgo Party Paloozas, $2 at Borders McCarthy Ranch! 54 party ideas!

Pumpkin. With meat. In pies. Chilis.

Mushrooms. Hunt them. Map the territory and plot.

Mapping. Kite photography. WIth wireless.

Wireless. Borrowing wireless. Wireless cameras.

Cameras.
